BIG IDEA and STATEMENT
BIG IDEA : How and Why Do Things Change?
The things around us are what cause change. In the 1920's some of the change can be traced back to WWI, but when new ideas are shown in society, they are either rejected or they spread. When the ideas involve making this easier like the inventions of the 1920's or when ideas make the people feel good like the jazz, drinking, and baseball, the idea is implemented into society. As soon as an established amount of people begin to to participate in an activity, other people try it out and if it is good, it spreads like wild fire, first in major cities then throughout the world. Overall the 1920's were a time of change because of all the new ways and ideas that led a very different culture than the world has ever seen.

STATEMENT: The social aspects of the 1920's are a mixture of new permissive events or modernism, which collide with the old Victorian standards, and the social mores of the past. Is this an accurate evaluation of the social aspects of the 1920's?
This is an accurate evaluation of the social aspects of the 1920's. Many things were changing during this time period. The older generation of this time period was used to living in the progressive era. During the 1920's things such as racism, religious differences, and new inventions drove the generations farther and farther apart. The newer, younger generation was really into partying, drinking alcohol, and smoking. Even the women smoked, and started wearing more showy things. Religion was also not as important to the younger generation. They would rather be learning about new inventions or dancing to jazz music at a party where the alcohol was unlimited. The invention of the automobile also made it hard for the generations to get along. The younger generation went to and from places as they pleased. They could go wherever they wanted, and they could also live outside the city because they had a means of transportation to get them back. All these differences were hard for the older generation to get accustomed too and therefore caused many conflicts.
